Supply list for grade 1 

Back to school shopping is in full swing, so I have compiled a list of supplies for your students to bring on Orientation Day. I will alert you when any supplies run low during the school year, but this list should get us started. Keep in mind that cheap supplies wear out quickly and frustrate young learners. Items in BOLD should be labeled clearly with your child’s name. Other items will be used as needed by the community so no labels are needed. Let’s get started!

  • 1 backpack, lunch box, water bottle
  • 4 lined, wide ruled composition notebooks
    four colors of highlighters
  • 2 pocket folders no brads
  • 2 pocket folders with three brads
  • one normal sized pencil box
  • 2 red pens
  • one personal sized pencil sharpener
  • 4 dry erase markers
  • 12 skinny basic colored markers
  • 3 glue sticks
  • scissors that fit your child’s hand
  • 1 pencil zipper bag
  • simple, standard sized clipboard
  • Two large pink erasers
  • 1 2-inch 3 ring binder white with view pockets (these need to be heavy duty)
  • 1 1 ½ inch 3 ring binder white with view pockets
  • 10 tab dividers with pockets
  • 1 six-inch clear rigid plastic ruler (seethrough)
  • 1 child sized dark colored sock (mini white board eraser)
  • 1 lap sized dry erase board 9” x 12” unlined, plain, frameless
  • 50 medium weight, clear page protectors
  • 100 lined index cards 3″ x 5″ white only
  • 100 sheets of wide ruled notebook paper loose leaf
  • 1 box of gallon sized zip lock bags
  • 1 box of quart sized zip lock bags
  • 1 box of snack sized zip lock bags
  • 48 Normal, yellow #2 pencils with 48 extra eraser tops (Ticonderoga hexagonal)
  • 3 boxes of tissue
  • 3 packages of anti-bacterial wipes

  • 48 Ticonderoga #2 Pencils

  • 24 pack colored pencils (Prismacolor or Crayola preferred)
  • 24 pack crayons (Crayola preferred)
  • 6 black dry erase markers (eraser optional)
  • 1 Personal sized white board (9×12 or smaller)
  • 4 blue or black ballpoint pens (with cap – non retractable)
  • 2 Green or Purple Pens (For student grading)

  • 5 insert divider tabs for 3 ring binder, also 5 dividers with pockets/sleeves for holding assignments

Literature – read alouds, simple stores for students to read, e.g., The Bob Books,

Various jingles – preposition jingle to prepare for first grade, geography jingles
Math – Singapore curriculum for K both A and B
Music – First We Sing (Susan Brumfield) and supplemental music songs/activities

First Grade Curriculum

Handwriting – Classically Cursive books and Cursive Rirst for review and know how.
Grammar- Shurley 1 for Grade 1. Lots of chanting of jingles and/ or sound offs
Literature – Various readers progressing to chapter books, to read aloud and silently.
Reading Comprehension  – McCall Crabb
Phonics – will use explode the code various levels as well as the black line masters
Math – Saxon Math 1b and Saxon Math 2a- learn various chants and sound offs
Science – various booklets learning about different animals as well as learning songs and jingles
History and Geography – state history, oceans continents, States-  memorization through jingles and songs, also includes map work
