Supply list for grade 1 

Back to school shopping is in full swing, so I have compiled a list of supplies for your students to bring on Orientation Day. I will alert you when any supplies run low during the school year, but this list should get us started. Keep in mind that cheap supplies wear out quickly and frustrate young learners. Items in BOLD should be labeled clearly with your child’s name. Other items will be used as needed by the community so no labels are needed. Let’s get started!

  • 1 backpack, lunch box, water bottle
  • 4 lined, wide ruled composition notebooks
    four colors of highlighters
  • 2 pocket folders no brads
  • 2 pocket folders with three brads
  • one normal sized pencil box
  • 2 red pens
  • one personal sized pencil sharpener
  • 4 dry erase markers
  • 12 skinny basic colored markers
  • 3 glue sticks
  • scissors that fit your child’s hand
  • 1 pencil zipper bag
  • simple, standard sized clipboard
  • Two large pink erasers
  • 1 2-inch 3 ring binder white with view pockets (these need to be heavy duty)
  • 1 1 ½ inch 3 ring binder white with view pockets
  • 10 tab dividers with pockets
  • 1 six-inch clear rigid plastic ruler (seethrough)
  • 1 child sized dark colored sock (mini white board eraser)
  • 1 lap sized dry erase board 9” x 12” unlined, plain, frameless
  • 50 medium weight, clear page protectors
  • 100 lined index cards 3″ x 5″ white only
  • 100 sheets of wide ruled notebook paper loose leaf
  • 1 box of gallon sized zip lock bags
  • 1 box of quart sized zip lock bags

  • 48 Normal, yellow #2 pencils with 48 extra eraser tops (Ticonderoga hexagonal)

Spell to Write and Read – learning the phonograms and rules, use the primary learning logs,
Literature – read alouds, simple stores for students to read, e.g., The Bob Books,
Phonics practice – Explode the Code, phonics black line masters
Various jingles – preposition jingle to prepare first grade, geography jingles
Math – Singapore curriculum for K both A and B
Music – First We Sing (Susan Brumfield) and supplemental music songs/activities
Art – Units on Colors, Shapes, Seasons, Holidays, Patterns, and Great Artists

Reading Comprehension  – Kelly Wyngate guides.
Phonics – will use explode the code various levels as well as the black line masters
Math – Math Mammoth Grades 1 & 2 – learn various chants and sound offs
Science –  variety of subjects using the Logos Press materials
History and Geography –  Antarctica and Washington state history

Science – with the 7&8 class – Apologia General Science Text and workbook
Art – Discovering Great Artists teacher material, sketch book for each student
Music – singing, Great Composers, using the Brumfield Curriculum
