  • ONE LAST THING:  be sure that you KNOW the trigonometric ratios for tan, sin and cos.  (i.e. :  opposite over adjacent, opposite over hypotenuse and adjacent over hypotenuse.)

Geometry: Homework Due Thursday, 4/5/2012

WELCOME BACK!!  I have a revised syllabus for you, so you can dispose of the older version.

  • You need to bring a scientific calculator (with sin, cos and tan) to every class from now until the end of the year.
  • Please read and study 11.2.
  • Do 11.2: #1-17 (unless you already did it before Spring Break)
  • Please read and study 11.3.
  • Do 11.3: #1-22, 38-41, Set III - #1 & 2
  • Please review 11.1 & 11.2 for a quiz on Thursday.  You need to know how to solve 11.1 #15-19, and you need to know how to use the Pythagorean Theorem. There will be 5 questions on the quiz - two from 11.1 and three problems using the Pythagorean Theorem.

Geometry: Geometry Test on Tuesday 3/20/2012

For the test tomorrow, please be sure you know:

  • how to find the area of a right triangle (half the product of its legs)
  • how to find the area of any triangle (half the product of any base and its corresponding altitude.)
  •  how to find the area of a trapezoid (half the product of its altitude and the sum of its bases).
  • Given the area of a square, know how to find the length of each side.
  • how to convert area from square feet to square inches
  • the similarity theorems
  • the ratio of the areas of two similar polygons is equal to the square of the ratio of the corresponding sides.
  • definition of a proportion and a ratio
  • how to solve a proportion
  • what are the “terms”, “means” and the “extremes” or a proportion

ALSO:  There will be a few algebra review questions on the test from chapters 7, 9, 10.  The test problems will be chosen from the following:

  • Chapter 7 Algebra Review: #26-30
  • Chapter 9 Algebra Review: #13-15
  • Chapter 10 Algebra Review: #23, 24
